Tilgate Forest

For years after I first got married, I had a fascination with tree formations which led to what I consider to be one of my major works, Tilgate Forest. I was ideally located for it at the time in a Crawley flat close to the forest itself, and, amongst my teaching commitments, including evening classes, I spent the best part of a year completing this study of a pathway through the trees. A location, incidentally, long since eradicated by local authority change.

I might add that change is not always for the better. However, I was pleased when the selection committee for the Sussex Artists Exhibition of 1970 chose to hang my work in the Brighton Royal Pavilion.
