Thunder Over the Adur (Finished)

Thunder Over the River Adur

A view of the river to the north

I was again in the Bramber area of the Adur Valley, but conditions on this occasion were very different to when I painted An Adur Tributary. Then the springtime blue sky was reflected in the water whereas now there was only a gathering of heavy storm clouds. The river seemed to frown back up at the darkness beginning to overshadow the whole landscape. The drama of it instantly caught my attention and, fortunately, my daughter who was with me had her camera and we were able to capture the whole threatening scene.

Often I’m not pleased with my work, but, on this occasion, I feel I’ve successfully portrayed the whole prevailing atmosphere.
