Sergeant Jack

This is a study from a First World War photograph of my father – incidentally, one of the finest and most honourable men I’ve ever known. As a painting, the khaki uniform is quite satisfactory and I was able to study his cap badge in detail because I still have it. He served in the Queen’s Regiment and the badge has historical value.

I have managed to capture his likeness but I am not a portraitist, and, at best, I can only describe my effort as a coloured drawing. Portraiture is a very special skill.
