My Parents’ Home

2 Garden Road, Portslade, Sussex

I was in two minds as to whether to include this rather sketchy record of my old home. It was done in too much of a hurry and with too little attention to detail. Nevertheless, it remains the only record of the premises that I know of, and, more importantly, belongs to an era when life went at a quieter pace and the corner shop used to be a vital part of the community. Furthermore, it’s not only where I spent the first thirty years of my life, but it also features in two of my novels: Beyond the Cattle Arch and its sequel Four Men to Zero.

If I’m strictly honest, my heart never left the place.
