Across the Fields at Crawley Down
Really, this is a companion piece to Tilgate Forest. It depicts a location not far from the old single-line railway track that used to run from Three Bridges to East Grinstead. I executed it in the same media as Tilgate Forest with a mapping pen and Indian ink.
I was living in the area at the time and made a pencil sketch of the scene before moving to Manchester for a year to study for my masters. It was another occasion when trees and their root formations had caught my attention, which is evidenced in the final picture.
I used the drawing as a form of relaxation from my studies and it took over a year to complete, but I was pleased once again when it was selected for the Sussex Artists Exhibition.
