Across the Bay at Naples

We were on holiday in Sorrento, Italy – the worst place, incidentally, to drive a car. Roundabouts and crossroads were just a game of chicken and during the whole two weeks of our stay I never saw one vehicle without some sort of damage to its bodywork. However, historically, it was a fascinating area with the remains of Herculaneum and Pompeii.

At one point, I drove down a precipitous road to the beach area where I found myself looking across the Bay of Naples at Mount Vesuvius, and the rocky hillside to my right, together with this distant view, offered a nicely balanced design.
